Storm devastates Lachendorf: Fire brigade clears fallen tree!
A violent storm triggered numerous fire brigade operations in the region on Monday. In Lachendorf, a fallen tree caused a stir when it blocked the entrance to a supermarket. The Lachendorf local fire department was called for help and deployed a vehicle to get the situation under control. The tree had fallen due to the strong winds and not only posed an obstacle to motorists, but also blocked the adjacent railway line. Using a motorized chainsaw, the firefighters were able to successfully clear the danger spot within an hour. After the work was completed, the operation was ended, as Celle Zeitung reports.
But the breakdown in Lachendorf was not the only storm event. The fire brigade also had to be called out in Metzingen when another tree threatened to fall onto the road. The situation on the cemetery grounds was critical. Thanks to the support of a local farmer who was there with a telescopic handler, the tree was brought down in a controlled manner and the danger was eliminated. Here too, the fire brigade needed around an hour to complete their work and end the operation.
Storm depression brings chaos
The storm that hit the region is part of a larger event that has been raging around Berlin and Brandenburg for days. There were numerous incidents in these areas, including many broken trees. According to RBB24, firefighters in East Germany had been busy with hundreds of operations up to this moment. Here, fallen trees even blocked train traffic on several routes, leading to disruptions lasting hours.
In Berlin, for example, trains between Doberlug-Kirchhain and Falkenberg had to stop for a long time on the track because of a fallen tree, and individual connections between Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder) were also affected. The situation is similar in Brandenburg, which had been confronted with over 250 weather-related operations up to this point. Many of these operations involved fallen trees that fell on roads or even houses. Fortunately, there were no injuries up to this point.
Weather warnings in focus
The meteorologists at the Unwetterzentrale monitor the weather situation meticulously in order to issue storm and hurricane warnings as a preventive measure. These warnings are divided into advance warnings and acute warnings in order to inform citizens and those responsible in a timely manner. These forecasts are particularly important for construction, agriculture, forestry and other sectors. Changes in the intensity and direction of storm systems can occur at any time and require rapid action by emergency services.
While the clean-up work in Lachendorf and Metzingen has already been completed, it remains to be seen whether the weather situation will worsen further. The coming days do not promise any calming weather, so the emergency services have to be prepared for anything.
