Cappeln is changing: Mayor Brinkmann will no longer be running in 2026!

Marcus Brinkmann, who has been mayor of Cappeln for 13 years, has now decided that he will no longer stand as a candidate in the local elections on September 13, 2026. He made this announcement after intensive consideration and discussions with his family. “The time is ripe for a change,” explained the 52-year-old, who sees his term in office as one of many examples of democracy that thrives on change. This is reported by the NWZ Online.

Brinkmann, a fully qualified lawyer, former lawyer and certified mediator, implemented many groundbreaking projects during his time as mayor. These include, among other things, the new construction of the town hall and the village community center, the redesign of the town center with a new market square and the expansion of the primary schools and daycare centers in Cappeln. The Cappeln youth club (JuCa), which was brought into being through the commitment of young people, is particularly important to him. These and many other measures demonstrate Brinkmann's commitment to the community and its further development.

A solid foundation for the future

“I want to give space to new ideas and perspectives,” emphasizes Brinkmann. Handing over responsibility to a successor is important to him, as he can build a successor on a solid foundation of village development. He is proud of what was achieved during his term of office, which was marked by many successful projects. “First the community, then the party, then the person” – this motto accompanied him on his path and shows his commitment to the community.

Brinkmann has already communicated his decision not to run again to the employees in the town hall and the local council. He thanks his family, friends and the Cappeln Independent Voters' Association (UWG) for their support over the years. Until the election, he wants to continue to exercise his office with full force and be there for the citizens.

Looking at the local elections

Important elections will also take place in Bavaria on March 8, 2026 - an occasion at which Bavaria's Interior and Local Government Minister Joachim Herrmann emphasized the importance of municipalities for democracy. As part of his opening event of the Bavarian Municipal Day, he encouraged citizens to stand for local mandates. “Why it’s worth running for office – for a good future for your community!” was the motto of the event. This emphasizes the need to encourage citizen participation and promote their engagement, which is also important in Cappeln's case as the community prepares for a new mayor.

Overall, a time of change is imminent, not only for Cappeln, but also for numerous communities that have to face the challenge of local elections. Brinkmann's enthusiasm for new tasks and challenges shows once again how important it is to bring experiences and ideas into the political landscape - a principle that is of central importance for every community.
