Thanksgiving meal: Cloppenburg celebrates with apple harvest and pumpkins!

This will load on October 5th Cloppenburg Museum Village for a very special celebration: the Thanksgiving festival under the motto “Meal”. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., up to 5,000 guests can look forward to a colorful program that focuses on both tradition and enjoyment.

The day begins with an ecumenical prayer at 2 p.m. at Hof Quatmann, which provides the spiritual framework for the celebrations. Throughout the village there are various hands-on activities for young and old, which will create an excellent atmosphere. A highlight is the apple harvest, where visitors can lend a hand and harvest the fruits of the field themselves.

A variety of activities for the whole family

On this day, the museum village is transformed into a real adventure field. In addition to the apple harvest, cider is also offered so that participants can enjoy the fruits of their labor straight away. For animal lovers, there is a variety of animals to marvel at including pigs, chickens, cows, horses and ducks, bringing rural life straight to the village. Of course that is too Nikolausdorf vintage car club represented with historical field work, as well as exciting threshing demonstrations that illustrate the working methods of bygone times.

The culinary delights are also not neglected: home-style cooking is served in the Dorfkrug, while various bakeries prepare traditional types of bread in the wood-fired oven. Regional delicacies are also waiting to be tried at the weekly market stalls. Anyone interested in animals and agriculture can also take a look at the RGZV Cloppenburg's pedigree poultry exhibition from 1896.

A celebration of diversity and tradition

Children especially get their money's worth at the Thanksgiving feast. You can harvest apples, see the mill in operation and try out old games. Another highlight are the Lower Saxony Giant Pumpkin Breeding Championships, where the best breeders present their giant pumpkins. Last year Jan Teelko Schröder won with a remarkable pumpkin of 269 kg. The national record is an impressive 702 kg, while the German record was set in Bavaria at 1052 kg.

There is also one taking place parallel to the festival Seed exchange exchange at Hof Awick from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This exchange focuses on old and regional crops and offers visitors the opportunity to exchange seeds for seeds they have harvested themselves or for a small donation. The aim is to revive the tradition of seed propagation, which has declined sharply in recent decades. It is estimated that 80-90% of crop diversity has already been lost, highlighting the value of such actions.

Thanksgiving has a long tradition that dates back to ancient times. It is celebrated not only to thank nature's gifts, but also to show respect for the work in agriculture. Especially in these times it is important to honor local agriculture and the traditions associated with it, because nothing beats the quality of regional products.

Be there and enjoy a day full of tradition, joy and regional delicacies in the museum village of Cloppenburg!
