Fatal accident on B213: 31-year-old dies in collision

A tragic traffic accident occurred on Friday evening, October 25, 2025, on federal highway 213 in Cloppenburg. At around 5:25 p.m., a 31-year-old man from Molbergen was fatally injured in a side collision between his Mercedes Vito and an Opel Grandland. The accident happened shortly after the Cloppenburg Nord entrance, where the driver of the Opel tried to change lanes and failed to see the approaching panel van.

As regionalheute.de reports, the Mercedes could no longer be controlled after the impact and crashed into a concrete plank. Tragically, the driver of the Mercedes died at the scene of the accident. His 24-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, while the Opel driver's 48-year-old passenger suffered shock. Two children who were sitting in the Opel were uninjured.

Course of the accident and consequences

The person who caused the accident, a 47-year-old man from Versmold, wanted to allow another vehicle to drive into it when he overlooked the Mercedes. The federal highway had to be closed in the direction of Vechta for several hours while the accident was recorded and rescue work was carried out. This led to significant traffic delays in the area.

The material damage to the vehicles involved is estimated at around 25,000 euros. Several emergency services were necessary to secure the scene of the accident, including the police, four ambulances, an emergency doctor and the Cloppenburg volunteer fire department with around 25 emergency services and five vehicles. A psychosocial emergency care team was also on site to provide support to those affected, as regionalupdate.de adds.

A call for witnesses

The Cloppenburg police have initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the accident and called in the public prosecutor's office. An expert is called in to reconstruct the accident. Police are asking any witnesses to come forward to provide any information that could help solve the case.

Accidents like this once again highlight the risks that lurk on the road. According to Destatis, on the other hand, statistics on traffic accidents provide valuable data that is necessary to improve traffic safety. They enable patterns and causes of accidents to be identified, which can ultimately help prevent similar tragedies.

Stay safe on the road and always pay attention to other road users. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
