Beedabei SAiL 2025: Artwork sets new sails for sustainability in Bremerhaven!

The art scene in Germany has a new attraction: The artwork “Beedabei SAiL 2025 – Set Sail”, which was presented at Willy-Brandt-Platz in Bremerhaven, not only sets artistic accents, but also important signals for sustainability, inclusion and biodiversity. Despite the changeable weather on a Sunday, the installation touched the hearts of visitors and shone in all its glory at 3 p.m. Initiated by Peter H. Kalb, the work of art consisted of a striking, yellow sailing ship made from 246 Beedabei boxes planted with drought-resistant wild perennials. These works of art are an integral part of the concept, which has stood for participatory art activities with ecological impulses since 2019 Gabot reported.

Helpers from dm drogerie markt from Bremerhaven, Cuxhaven and Nordenham as well as the partner associations Hawelti e.V. and Spiel ein Spiel supported this impressive project, not only with the assembly, but also partly financially. The Bremerhaven Volunteer Fire Department and the Zoo am Meer were also actively involved and helped bring the boxes to visitors. The high level of participation from guests was particularly pleasing: many transported the Beedabei boxes on their bicycles or cargo bikes, making the campaign not only creative but also environmentally friendly.

A work of art with vision

The high level of interest in these ecological works of art shows how important the topic of biodiversity is in today's society. The Beedabei boxes were repositioned not only in Bremerhaven, but also in Thuringia, Unna, Düsseldorf, Bremen and Nuremberg. This illustrates the dynamic process that the project has initiated and that extends beyond the borders of Bremerhaven.

Another aspect of the Beedabei concept is the upcoming art project “Beedabei Kompass MegaStern”, which will take place on June 5, 2025 at the LTEtt Arboretum in Ettelbruck. This event will feature a bright yellow compass rose made from 40 bee feeders and 10 window boxes. Visitors can take these boxes home for free starting at 4 p.m. Students from the Lycée Technique Agricole and other local institutions are also actively involved in the design process. As well as Luga reports, the new, bee-friendly rose will be named by Agriculture Minister Martine Hansen.

Promotion of values

These projects not only represent the promotion of biodiversity, but also European cooperation and dialogue between generations. The works of art and their distribution are an important signal of how art and nature can work together to embody and strengthen shared values.
