Triathlon – A young phenomenon
Triathlon comes from Greek and means “three competitions”. Exactly these three disciplines – swimming, cycling and running – must be completed in this order, without interruption. The clock runs continuously. Loud SWB Triathlons have become a popular sport since the first competitions in France in the 1920s. It was introduced as an Olympic discipline in Sydney in 2000. In Germany, triathlon has grown enormously in popularity since the first competitions in the 1980s and offers around 600 events every year.
The numbers speak for themselves: 90,000 participants in 2003, which increased to 270,000 in 2016. The German Triathlon Union, founded in 1985, ensures that this sport continues to be promoted. Among the prominent German triathletes you will find names like Jan Frodeno, who won Olympic gold in 2008 and won the Ironman Hawaii in 2015.
From athlete to support
Around 180 helpers are needed to run the event smoothly. They not only provide logistical support, but also receive food and an event shirt as a thank you for their efforts. At such a big event, every helping hand is worth its weight in gold.
There is still another chance for spectators and interested participants to get involved: the Kreiszeitung media group is giving away individual and relay starting places for the people's triathlon. The deadline for entries for the raffle is June 29, 2025 - so it's worth being quick!
On July 27th, the Silbersee becomes the venue for sporting events that bring together both athletes and spectators and offer a real celebration of movement. Be there and feel the fever of triathlon!
