Emsland: New energy systems set standards for green independence!

A lot is happening in the exciting world of renewable energies, and the project by Giga Coating GmbH and System Trailers Fahrzeugbau GmbH in Emsland is a shining example of this. On July 24, 2025, an innovative energy system was put into operation that sets new standards for green energy supply. The focus is on the goal of independence from fluctuating electricity prices and fossil fuels. This partnership shows how collaboration can take new paths to advance the energy transition. The system was developed jointly by Greenflash GmbH and STABL Energy GmbH. Between 2022 and 2025, over 2 megawatt peak PV power was installed on the roofs of the participating companies. An important expansion is the STABL battery storage system, which has a capacity of 1,233 kWh and an output of 405 kW. What makes this battery storage system special is the use of second-life battery modules from e-mobility. This is where STABL's innovative multilevel inverter technology comes into play, which makes it possible to give the batteries a second life.

Economic and environmental sustainability

The managing director of Giga Coating, Ralf Saatkamp, ​​emphasizes how important economic and ecological sustainability is in production. The combination of a PV system and battery storage helps to avoid load peaks, reduces electricity costs and optimizes self-sufficiency. In addition, the intelligent control through the GreenX1 Controller™ from Greenflash brings remarkable advantages. This enables the optimization of self-consumption, peak shaving and dynamic tariff usage, which is considered future-oriented. The use of arbitrage effects to increase self-consumption is already being planned.

The challenges facing the industry should not be underestimated: scarcity of resources, rising energy prices and climatic developments make an energy transition essential. Volatile energy sources such as wind and solar require reliable solutions. This is where second-life battery storage comes into play. MHP highlights that reusing batteries from Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) not only reduces costs, but can also reduce CO₂ emissions. The demand for new batteries is reduced, contributing to environmental sustainability.

The path to a positive future

Another benefit of this technology is the creation of jobs and the improvement of infrastructure, especially in developing countries. However, there are also challenges, such as the lack of trust in second-life batteries and the high manufacturing costs. Innovative solutions are required here. Approaches such as product service systems (PSS) and digital technologies could help to significantly increase the efficiency of storage solutions.

The CEO of STABL Energy, Dr. Nam Truong, underlines the importance of combining sustainable technology and industrial value creation. The future belongs to those who are willing to invest in new solutions and face the challenges. With the entry into force of the EU Battery Regulation and the introduction of a battery passport from 2027, the market for used batteries will also be increasingly regulated, which will increase transparency and security.
