As part of an emotional trip to Lake Tankum in the Gifhorn district, Saskia, one of the passengers, spent precious time with her loved ones. She remembered previous visits with her daughter Ella when she was little. “It was like going back in time to happy moments,” she said. The trip, which was described as the best day in a long time, included a shared picnic basket - in keeping with the tradition they have long maintained. The wish car team supported the family and created space for loving farewell moments.
What makes the Wish Car so special?
The wish car, which was launched by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB), is similar to an ambulance, but is used in situations in which saving lives is no longer possible. The ASB is currently providing information about the project at the CMT trade fair in Stuttgart. Not only the special trips, but also the sensitive support from volunteer drivers are central elements of this offer. Since the project was introduced in Essen in 2014, 23 wish cars have now been stationed nationwide, and many fulfilled wishes testify to the great social relevance of this offer. The volunteers often have medical or nursing qualifications and ensure that the necessary medical support is provided on every trip. Before departure, passengers' health and medications are checked, which increases safety during the journey. The weather often plays a big role - many find the view from the panoramic windows to be particularly enriching.
The Wish Car not only offers an opportunity to make unfulfilled heartfelt wishes come true, but also comfort and valuable memories for those affected and their relatives. The project is financed by donations from companies, private individuals and foundations, so that it can continue to provide unbureaucratic help. Because in the end it's about realizing hype and heartfelt desires in order to create unforgettable moments.
