Hero at the last second: Missing senior citizen rescued in Bad Lauterberg!
In Bad Lauterberg, a picturesque health resort in the Göttingen district, a 91-year-old senior woman from the Gifhorn area was found in an emergency situation on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The old lady had been missing since June 10 when she failed to return to her hotel during a short vacation. This led to a frightening search, with police asking the public for help. Fortunately, the case ended well when an attentive resident heard suspicious noises and finally discovered the senior citizen in a helpless position under thick bushes on a slope of the “Kummel” mountain. According to the police, this quick response was life-saving.
The previous call for help had set the rescue services in motion. Volunteer fire brigade and police were quickly there to care for the senior citizen. Despite her injuries, she was responsive, which is encouraging news in such situations. After initial treatment on site, she was taken to Herzberg Hospital in an ambulance to receive further treatment.
Thanks to helping hands
The Bad Lauterberg police immediately thanked the emergency services, the volunteers and, above all, the person who found the senior citizen. Such missions show how important community cohesion is. “Without the determined efforts of the resident, the situation might have turned out completely differently,” said the police department. This also illustrates the problem of missing people, which occur in large numbers every day in Germany.
In general, between 200 and 300 missing person cases are processed by the police every day in Germany, with the clearance rate in Berlin being around 98%. According to the statistics, there were 11,452 missing people in Berlin in 2022, most of which were solved in less than three days. For adults, like the senior citizen in Bad Lauterberg, the disappearance can often be caused by personal problems. Minors are usually considered to be at risk, which also leads to faster searches, documents the RBB.
However, the fairest chances of rediscovering missing people remain in the first moment of the search. The longer a person remains missing, the harder it becomes to find them alive. But fortunately, both in Bad Lauterberg and in numerous other cases, attentive citizens and professional emergency services have already successfully found many missing people. We would like to thank everyone who gets involved in such situations and does their part.
Hopefully all that the 91-year-old will be left with from this incident is the memory of the beautiful days on vacation, while we would like to thank all the helpers who were there for her.
