New district administrator in Gifhorn: Raulfs wins with a clear majority!
On October 29, 2025, Gifhorn will look forward to an exciting turning point in local politics. Philipp Raulfs from the SPD takes office as the new district administrator after a clear election victory with 53.60% of the vote. He successfully prevailed against Telse Dirksmeyer-Vielhauer (CDU), Marion Mäding (BSW) and Stefan Marzischewski-Drewes (AfD) and will now have to resign his state parliament mandate in order to take up the new office. Andrea Kötter replaces him in the state parliament, a change that will reshape the political structure in the Gifhorn district.
The next local elections are scheduled for September 13, 2026. Raulfs' commitment is urgently needed, because the Rötgesbüttel through-road will be completely closed for at least a year and a half from 2027. This is in the context of the upcoming renovation work at the Ummer intersection on the B4, a known accident hotspot, where a roundabout is planned to reduce the number of accidents.
Green initiatives and leisure activities
Another important project in Gifhorn is the development of a climate protection district on the site of the former hospital. The construction of a new daycare center and 22 subsidized apartments are currently awaiting funding approval from N-Bank. The daycare center is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027. These initiatives show that the municipality is not only active in politics, but also has the quality of life of its citizens in mind.
An exciting Halloween program awaits the people of Gifhorn in their free time. From October 31st to November 2nd there are numerous events in the district, including spooky attractions at Stefanie and Andreas Velten in Meine, an 800 meter long scary mile in Neudorf-Platendorf and special Halloween activities at the Otter Center in Hankensbüttel. The season couldn't have ended more fittingly!
Sporting successes from Canada
Also encouraging is the sports news from Canada, where the Toronto Blue Jays won their seventh division title and third American League title in 2025. The baseball team, founded in 1977, has not only made a name for itself as the only remaining Major League Baseball team outside the USA, but has also established itself as an example of success in sports history. From their beginnings at Exhibition Stadium to their current home at the Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays have been an integral part of Canadian sports culture. With impressive achievements such as winning the World Series in 1992 and 1993 and a loyal fan base, they have achieved special status across Canada.
What's going on in Gifhorn and how sports teams are creating excitement in Canada shows how diverse life is both locally and internationally. The new district administrator has a lot to do, but the positive initiatives and sporting successes offer cause for joy and confidence for the future of the community and, especially now during the Halloween season, plenty of reason for social gatherings.
