A little light turns on in Göttingen at Christmas time! The “Gö shines” campaign provides atmospheric lighting in the city center. What is particularly exciting is that Göttingen Marketing GmbH (GMG) is working hard this year to create a festive atmosphere with attractive lighting. This beautiful light installation is financed through the sale of a chocolate Advent calendar, which is available for 5.95 euros at the tourist information center at the Old Town Hall. And the best thing: 1.50 euros per calendar sold goes directly to the Christmas lights. This gives all citizens the chance to actively contribute to the festive atmosphere in the side streets.
The initiative, led by Mayor Petra Broistedt, has been supporting local Christmas lights since 2024. This relies on modern, energy-saving LED technology, which not only provides a warm light, but is also resource-saving. “Gö shines” is a great example of community engagement. Companies and private individuals can contribute to lighting as sponsors and thus strengthen the quality of stay in the city and promote cohesion.
