A lot is happening in Göttingen: the draft heat plan is now on the table. The city administration has taken this step to ensure a greenhouse-neutral heat supply in the future. But what does this mean for citizens? They have until December 12, 2025 to express their opinion on the plan. goettingen.de informs that heat generation accounts for a significant share of around 50 percent of urban greenhouse gas emissions. One more reason to think about new heating systems.

The heat plan is intended to support building owners and utility companies in making the right decisions. Although the draft is available online, citizens can also find out about the plans in person. The documents are available in the Department for Sustainable Urban Development, at Schildweg 1, at the following times:

  • Montag bis Mittwoch: 8.00 – 14.00 Uhr
  • Donnerstag: 8.00 – 17.00 Uhr
  • Freitag: 8.00 – 13.00 Uhr

Opinion and process

Anyone who would like to actively participate in the design of the plan can send suggestions by email sustainability@goettingen.de send. Written statements should be sent to: City of Göttingen, Department for Sustainable Urban Development, Hiroshimaplatz 1-4, 37083 Göttingen. But be careful: comments received after December 12, 2025 will not be taken into account. The city council decided to prepare the heat plan on February 16, 2024.
