Massive wall blocks access to the CDU headquarters in Göttingen!

In Göttingen, a spectacular protest caused excitement: on June 16, the entrance to the CDU office was blocked by a massive wall. Unknown perpetrators had built these around 1.50 meter high wall of fresh mortar and stones and placed in front of the access gate. Several banners hung on the wall, including one with the striking inscription: "closed because of your warfare and racist foreclosure policy".

The wall was discovered by an employee of the CDU around 8.10 a.m., who immediately alerted the police. This secured the protest banner and quickly started removing the wall, which was completely removed during the day. The police suspect a politically motivated act and have entrusted the state security with the investigation. The CDU district chairman Fritz Güntzler was horrified by the campaign and described it as a worrying escalation in the political argument. A similar incident occurred in February when the office became the goal of a color stop, which caused the investigators to check a possible connection between the two incidents. According to picture, there is talk of coercion and property damage.

politically motivated attacks on CDU offices

The events in Göttingen are not isolated: attacks on CDU offices nationwide have also increased, triggered by the controversial asylum seeking of the Union. According to Welt, tens of thousands demonstrate against the CDU migration policy, which recently culminated in considerable property damage. The Green Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck sharply condemned the violence and in this context speaks of a mandate abuse of the CDU after an application for tightening the migration policy with votes from the AfD.

In many cities, including Dortmund, Mainz and Berlin, it is currently said: "The nerves are bare". The police report on color attacks, sometimes also about threats of murder against employees, as in the case in Mainz. In Berlin-Charlottenburg, up to 40 people have entered a CDU citizens' office. Advertisements were reimbursed for property damage and trespassing. Welt also reports that the protests in many cities, on the whole, were largely peaceful.

growing willingness to use violence?

The increasing willingness to violence with political protests raises questions that are in the context of even social turmoil. According to bpb, the border between violent and peaceful demonstrators is often difficult to draw. In many cases, the distinction is as challenging, since there are always violent clashes that arise from sitting blockages or similar forms of protest. These developments are increasingly shaking the usual political landscape. In view of such protests, the police see a special difficulty in combining the protection of freedom of assembly with the maintenance of public security.

The discussion about violence and political stability is also fueled by the current threats to CDU employees. It remains to be seen how the political actors react to the escalation and whether solutions are found to defuse the processed situation.
