New look for Göttingen's football women: jerseys and fighting spirit!
On Friday afternoon the time had come: the women's team of 1. SC Göttingen 05 ceremoniously received their new jersey set, which was presented by Axel Poelen from the Göttinger Tageblatt. These new jerseys, which are in modern anthracite and feature a chic white “GT” logo, are the result of winning the Rewe Junior Cup. There they were awarded as a prize for the best regional team in the club's U19 team. A nice gesture that benefits the women in the Göttingen-Osterode district league, because the club management decided to leave the jersey set to the women who want to prove themselves in the new season.
Coach Daniela Jacobi and captain Aylin Lehnhardt played an active role in designing the jerseys. The players were even allowed to choose their desired numbers; Goalkeeper Maja Horstrup secured number one, while Michelle Ronge was inspired by Benedikt Höwedes and chose number four. Midfielder Svea Holzkamp praised the comfortable material of the new jerseys, which further fuels the anticipation for the coming season.
Season preparation and goals
Despite a preparation marked by injuries in which no test matches could be played, the women showed fighting spirit. The goal for the season is clear: it should be a place in the middle of the table in the district league. After three games, the women are currently in tenth place out of twelve, but proudly lead the fairness table with no yellow or red cards. Player Ilka Ronsöhr has even successfully completed all referee courses, which shows impressive commitment.
The team is made up of students and professionals and often does not have many substitute players available. However, the challenges don't seem to matter because the team trains twice a week and is open to new additions. “We will give everything to celebrate our first victory in the new outfit,” said coach Jacobi confidently. A great team spirit that is reflected not only in the new jerseys, but also in training and playing together.
Successes and glimmers of hope
The 3-0 away win against SG Westdörfer was particularly pleasing, in which player Desiree Cartschau scored a hat trick. Together with her daughter Angi Minor, who plays in defense, Nicole Minor shows that family ties and football are inextricably linked. The cohesion in the team and the will to continuously improve make the women a promising opponent in the district league.
The Lower Saxony Women's Oberliga, the highest division in the Lower Saxony Football Association, forms the framework for the ambitions that are being approached very optimistically in the district league. This league has a long history with regular name changes and has established itself as the fourth highest division in the German league system since 2004. However, the focus is clearly on the current season, in which the women are giving everything to assert themselves in the competition and show good performances.
The Göttingen football women are starting the season with a new look and fresh enthusiasm and are already enjoying a positive balance in terms of fairness and team spirit. There is definitely more to come!
