A festive spectacle ended last night at the Rhine fair in Düsseldorf with a bloody accident. The traditional conclusion of the event was overshadowed when a firecracker detonated at a height that was too low for an unknown reason. As a result, a total of 19 people were injured, including unfortunately a child. What is particularly tragic is that four of those injured were seriously injured. The spectacle, which had been going on for a week, was supposed to have lasted until the early hours of the morning. But the organizer decided to end the festival early at around 10:45 p.m. and to question the fair's fireworks tradition for next year. During the operation, around 80 fire and rescue services were on site, which is not a given when you consider that the Rhine fair features over 300 showmen on a 165,000 square meter festival area.

The accident happened during the final festive fireworks display, which took place after an impressive drone show with 1,000 drones. The Rhine Fair, which celebrates the name day of the patron saint St. Apollinaris, attracts thousands of visitors every year. However, this tradition is now on the brink. A survey of 1,000 respondents found that 59 percent supported a ban on firecrackers, while 39 percent were against it.
