Shocking find: Nine rabbits rescued from bulky waste on Herbert's farm!
On June 24, 2023, an unusual find at Herberts Farm in the Helmstedt district caused a stir: nine rabbits were discovered in two boxes in the bulky waste. Wiebke and Annika, the operators of the farm, were visibly shocked when they opened the boxes. A note in one of the boxes stated that the animals had been rescued from pens and were now to be cared for on Herbert's farm. The two women expressed their dissatisfaction with the method of delivery and wished they had been asked beforehand if they had room for the rabbits. Most of the care is financed out of your own pocket, which doesn't make the situation any easier.
The rabbits now live in a more spacious enclosure, where they share space with two small chickens. Compared to the previous keeping – often locked in small cages – the animals now have much more space available. In the future, however, they will have to be neutered before they are allowed into the large outdoor area. These new living conditions offer the rabbits the opportunity to get enough exercise and fresh air, which they can now fully enjoy on Herbert's farm. The operators hope that such incidents can be avoided in the future and that the animals are given to appropriate places in a respectful manner.
A call to the community
Wiebke and Annika appeal to the community to take care of pets responsibly and to find adequate solutions if a surrender becomes necessary. “It would be nice if people asked us beforehand, because we want to offer the animals a good future,” they explained. Their determination to give these animals a better life is appreciated by many in the region.
Some time ago the farm was already known in the area for its commitment to animal welfare. They are continually supported by animal-loving people who not only help financially but also actively. Events and fundraisers are held regularly to alleviate the need to care and house the animals.
Background information about R
And while R is blossoming in the world of data science, another major project is being launched in faraway Egypt, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). It awaits visitors in the fourth quarter of 2025 with its high-profile exhibitions, including King Tut's famous treasure. Even in such a context it becomes clear how closely animal protection and different forms of culture and science are intertwined. Ultimately, the ongoing commitment to the animals in Helmstedt shows us that with commitment and heart you can make a difference, regardless of the area.
