Sven Regener receives the new Golden Tone” music award in Goslar!

The former “Paul Lincke Ring” award was renamed and now bears the illustrious title “Golden Tone”. This name change was not made without reason, as it was urgently necessary to come to terms with the namesake's Nazi past. Regener is not only the frontman of the band “Element of Crime”, but also a celebrated writer. This story about the fall of the Berlin Wall was written by Leander Haussmann staged, who will give the eulogy for Regener.

Artful engagement with the past

The renaming of the prize reflects the critical examination of the past. Historians have proven that Paul Lincke was involved during the Nazi regime and benefited from it. Regener, who has already advocated a reappraisal in 2024, calls for the dark chapters of history not to be forgotten. The newly designed prize will be awarded to Regener retrospectively for the year 2024.

Regener, born on January 1, 1961, is a cultural giant who is well interwoven with the music and literary scene. The jury describes him as “the poetic expert in ironic-laconic tenderness” because he has the talent to dress love’s suffering and moods into concise sentences and stories. His songs, including hits like “Delmenhorst” and “A Hotdog Down at the Harbor,” are very popular.

A man of many talents

Musically versatile, Regener accompanied numerous bands from the age of 16. In 1985 he founded “Element of Crime” and has been delighting audiences with his pieces ever since. In addition to music, he has also found recognition in the literary world, with several novels that have achieved high sales. His works, including “Neue Vahr Süd” and “Magical Mystery”, show a wide range of creativity and empathy.

His commitment goes beyond music and literature. Regener is co-founder of PEN Berlin and is committed to the rights of authors and creative people. His daughter, Alexandra Regener, has also left her mark on the band.

The award ceremony, which will take place on November 1, 2025, will also include a dedication by the award winners to a new sound installation in the Hahnenklee Kurpark. Both the new music prize and the art installation symbolize the departure and remembrance that remain important even today.
