20 years of camel oasis: celebrate with camel cuddles and more!

In the Lüneburg Heath, more precisely in Handeloh, there is a special oasis that is celebrating its 20th birthday on July 5th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Camel Oasis, founded by the committed qualified educator and school social worker Daniela Huttel, not only plays an important role for the region, but also offers an important contact point for people with special needs. This celebration promises a meeting with the unique camels that form the centerpiece of the facility.

Camels like Diana, Dolly, Daya, Krümel, Aralie and Merlin, a loyal horse, live in the camel oasis. These sensitive and social animals are specifically used for animal-assisted therapy. They not only promote well-being, but also have a healing effect on people with physical, mental or emotional limitations. The camels in the oasis are not only amazing companions, but also patient listeners, enabling adults and children to share their concerns and develop trust. There are no great expectations or special requirements - instead, stroking and brushing the animals while they are in a relaxed lying position is desired.

Inclusion and animal-assisted pedagogy

A central goal of the Kameloase is to promote inclusion. Thanks to animal-assisted pedagogy, visitors, whether small or large, can actively participate and strengthen their skills. The oasis uses the special contact with animals to increase people's self-confidence and motor skills. In animal-assisted work, participants learn to take responsibility and interpret the animals' reactions, resulting in a varied learning experience that is never repeated. Every visit is a new moment that contains lived experiences and new friendships. Animals act as co-therapists, promote courage and self-efficacy and support visitors in growing beyond their own limits, like the platform Colorful circle describes.

The Camel Oasis not only offers therapeutic hours, but also the opportunity to explore the surrounding area on trekking tours or celebrate children's birthdays. Even blind animals are part of the program and contribute to acceptance and inclusion. It is gratifying to see that such a positive attitude towards the promotion and integration of people with different needs is practiced here. Anyone interested in visiting should know that registration is required for regular visits, but not for the anniversary celebration. The upcoming coffee, cake and raffle highlights promise a wonderful event with prizes such as animal sponsorships!

The Camel Oasis in Handeloh is not only a special facility for the local community, but also a place for learning and development. It shows how valuable contact with animals can be for mental health. One important aspect remains: camels and other animals, in their work as listeners and co-therapists, offer an excellent opportunity to promote social skills and significantly increase the joy of life of all visitors. The Camel Oasis actually brings people and animals together in a harmonious connection that is so valued here in the region.
