Digital Angel: Help for seniors - Now at Winsen Town Hall!

What's going on in Winsen? On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the mobile advisory service “Digital Angel” will be in front of the town hall in Winsen (Luhe) between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The project, initiated by the Johann-Peter-Eckermann-Realschule as part of the elective course “Digital Security”, aims to help older people use digital media. In collaboration with the family office of the city of Winsen and the nationwide “Digital Angel” project, very special support is offered.

According to landkreis-harburg.de, 72% of people over 65 in Germany already use the Internet regularly, with the number of the younger generation even being over 95%. Nevertheless, it is clear that there is a digital divide, especially when it comes to making appointments online and using digital health services. Mayor André Wiese emphasizes the importance of digital participation for social integration, while district councilor Ana Cristina Bröcking sees the Digital Angel as a valuable contribution to better supporting older people.

Digital Angel – A valuable offer

The “Digital Angel” project is not just an initiative, but a comprehensive support system that aims to introduce digital skills to older people. The BMBFSFJ promotes this movement, which aims to help older people overcome their everyday challenges with digital tools. Doing shopping, dealing with authorities or maintaining contact with family members – all of this should be made easier with competent and safe use of digital media.

Experts will be on site to offer advice on topics such as messenger services, data protection, online banking and streaming services. This meets the desire of many older people to be able to better orientate themselves and use digital space. Roger Grewe, chairman of the district senior citizens' advisory board, emphasizes that many older people are willing to use digital offerings, but often need support.

Part of the DigitalPakt Age

The project is also an important part of the DigitalPakt Alter, which aims to support over 150 local digital training initiatives by 2025. With a budget of over 3.1 million euros, the Federal Ministry for Senior Citizens wants to make older people fit for the digital future. The main topics here are social interaction, health and mobility.

The initiative has already reached more than 15,000 older people and it remains to be said: almost seven million people of the 60 plus generation do not currently use the Internet. Many say they need to see a benefit to engaging with digital technologies. The Digital Angel could be a comfortable bridge.

The infomobile is open to anyone interested; no registration is required. If you would like more information, you can find it at digitaler-engel.org or at the family office of the city of Winsen on 04171 657-114. A good knack for digital participation is definitely required here - and the Digital Angel is ready to help!
