Fascination of Harburg: Ralf Schwinge shows new views in the city museum!

A fascinating exhibition is currently being presented in the Harburg City Museum, which focuses on the works of the up-and-coming city painter and chronicler Ralf Schwinge. Under the title “City painter Ralf Schwinge: Harburg in new views” visitors can admire an impressive collection of around 150 sketches, drawings and paintings until September 7th. The exhibition takes place at Museumsplatz 2 in Harburg and is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This leaves enough time to immerse yourself in the creative world of Schwinge and other Harburg artists.

Ralf Schwinge, born in 1990, has made a name for himself in Hamburg's art scene. He has been documenting the development of his hometown part, especially the south of Hamburg, for many years. His work not only reflects structural change, but also captures people's everyday lives and local events in vivid snapshots. Interestingly, Schwinge has deeper roots in the city: his great-granduncle was also a landscape painter, which further fueled his passion for painting.

Insights into history

The exhibition not only offers a look at Schwinge's works, but also compares paintings by earlier Harburg artists. These include Otto Ewerien (1900-1965), Wolfgang Götze (1906-1988) and Carl Ihrke (1921-1983). This interaction allows visitors to follow developments in Harburg's art scene over the years. Special highlights include the associated eight-meter-long panoramas, which present a 180-degree view of Harburg and impressively capture the cityscape.

Schwinge's creative approach, often working directly on location, allows him to capture spontaneous moments and atmospheric scenes. His works are therefore not only works of art, but also documents of urban life. In this context, the city museum offers accompanying programs, including guided tours and workshops with Ralf Schwinge, which make the experience even more interactive. Anyone who would like to find out more about his techniques and ideas has the opportunity to take part in the artist talks on August 31st and September 7th at 11 a.m.

This exciting exhibition is not only a celebration for art lovers, but also a loving homage to the city of Harburg itself. Anyone who is in the area should not miss the opportunity to be inspired by one of the most talented chroniclers and city painters of our time. The state newspaper reports about the exhibition, which offers a unique experience for all age groups.
