Serious traffic accident: Johanniter transporter crashes into truck!
On September 18th, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. on the A 27 in the Heidekreis, between the Walsrode Süd junction and the Walsrode triangle. A VW van belonging to the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH) crashed at high speed into the left rear of a truck that had to brake due to a backlog caused by a construction site on the A7. The driver of the van was seriously injured in the impact and was trapped in the vehicle, reported Feuerwehrmagazin.
Immediately after the accident, a member of the volunteer fire department became active and provided first aid until the professional emergency services arrived. At 3:21 p.m. the control center alerted the Walsrode volunteer fire department and the Krelingen fire department with the keyword “TH 1 Y traffic accident, person trapped”. A total of 17 firefighters from Walsrode as well as eight comrades from Krelingen, the German Red Cross and the police were on site.
Operation and rescue measures
The Walsroder fire brigade was on duty with a command vehicle, an rescue vehicle and a fire fighting team vehicle, while the Krelingen fire brigade used an emergency fire fighting team vehicle. The emergency services secured the scene of the accident and rescued the trapped driver. Hydraulic rescue equipment such as rescue cylinders, hydraulic scissors and a spreader were used to free the injured driver. These rescue operations lasted approximately 30 minutes and required complete closure of the roadway, which guaranteed safety during the rescue.
After being freed, the seriously injured driver was immediately treated by the rescue service and an emergency doctor. Ensuring fire protection throughout the entire rescue effort was also an important task for the emergency services, as dangerous situations can quickly arise in such accidents.
A common use for the fire department
Traffic accidents with trapped people are a typical scenario that the fire department is often confronted with. According to a guide for such operations, technical assistance is a common operational keyword. When dealing with these operations, it is important to have a structured approach that is divided into three steps: exploration, analysis and planning. The initial view of the scene plays a fundamental role in the successful execution of rescue operations, and it is crucial to look at all facets of the accident scene in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of the situation, as described on employedtactics.info.
The reactions of the fire departments and emergency services to complex emergencies not only show the commitment of the emergency services, but also the need to always be well prepared. In the case of the tragic accident with the Johanniter transporter, it was once again demonstrated that every second counts and the organization of the fire department is of central importance in order to save lives and treat the injured as quickly as possible.
