Brazen fuel fraudster escapes: investigations are underway in Hildesheim!
In the last few days, not only have prices increased at gas stations in the Hildesheim area, but so has crime. On July 5, 2025, a brazen incident occurred at a motorway gas station that caused a stir. An unknown female person filled her car, a Toyota, with 47 liters of diesel and then left without paying for the fuel. She informed the cashier that she simply didn't want to pay the bill and then left in her car. A criminal case has been initiated and investigations are ongoing. The license plate number of the vehicle, which has now been checked, also provides initial approaches to identifying the perpetrator. There is currently no further information available, and this is getting on the officials' last nerve, as Hildesheimer Presse reports.
But that wasn't the only incident in the region. On May 7, 2025, a 32-year-old from Hildesheim robbed a gas station on Marienburger Straße. He entered the gas station sales room three times in about half an hour. At first he bought small things, then the third time he demanded money without showing a weapon or other dangerous object. An alert employee asked for help and pressed the alarm button, whereupon the suspect fled. The police promptly launched a manhunt and were able to track down the man on Nettelbeckstrasse about 15 minutes later. He was initially taken to the police station, but after consultation with the public prosecutor's office he was released. An investigation into attempted predatory extortion has been initiated, as the Nordische Post reports.
Gas stations as targets for robberies
Gas stations in Germany are increasingly the focus of criminals. Data from the Federal Criminal Police Office show that the number of robberies at gas stations recorded by the police will increase from 2014 to 2024. This development makes it clear that the need for more security is growing in these often open and poorly guarded places. As examples, the statistics show that more than 3,000 such attacks have been registered in recent years. The trend is worrying and it remains to be hoped that the safety of customers at such filling stations will not be further jeopardized. The situation at the gas stations in Hildesheim reflects what many people in the region have long suspected: susceptibility to criminal acts is increasing. While it is hoped that the police will get the situation under control quickly, gas station operators are required to strengthen their security measures in order to offer customers more security. Given these developments, it remains to be seen what further measures will be taken to improve the situation and bring the perpetrators to account.
