A 58-year-old man was seriously injured in an attempted robbery in Hildesheim last night. The brutal attack occurred around 6:15 p.m. in the entrance area of a residential building on Hochkamp Street. Two masked men attacked the victim from behind, pushed him into the stairwell and beat him, trying to snatch his cell phone and wallet. Since the perpetrators failed in their plan, they fled in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while police describe the perpetrators as slim men between 1.70 and 1.80 meters tall. It is believed that they may have followed the man from the nearby Lidl market on Steuerwalder Strasse, as the Oldenburg online newspaper reported.
But it doesn't stop at this incident. On Wednesday afternoon, a similar robbery shocked the Hildesheim population. A bar owner was threatened and robbed by two men with a gun in his own bar. The perpetrators took the innkeeper under a pretext to a separate room on Hindenburgplatz, where they threatened him and stole four-figure amounts of cash before fleeing. Witnesses chased the perpetrators and alerted the police, who allowed them to intervene quickly. A 36-year-old suspect was arrested and has been in custody since Thursday while his accomplice is on the run.
