Festival legends in Schneverdingen: Blues, Roots & Song inspires!
On July 13, 2025, the Theeshof in Schneverdingen shone with the splendor of the 18th open-air festival “Blues, Roots & Song”. The Schneverdingen Cultural Association, supported by numerous volunteers, put a lot of effort into organizing an event that has now achieved cult status. The festival not only attracts local visitors, but also attracts music lovers from Hamburg, Bremen and beyond. Surrounded by centuries-old oak trees, the festival offered a relaxed atmosphere and top-class handmade music.
The festival line-up was promising. With Ray Wilson, the former singer of Genesis, as the top act, who presented both “Genesis Classics” and his own songs, there was a musical highlight for those present. The renowned blues harp player Steve Baker and his band also provided captivating moments. The Hamburg band “WellBad” rounded off the program with a mixture of soulful original gospel and country rock and thrilled the audience. As can be read on the festival's official website, there is a strong focus on a varied and high-quality musical offering, which is particularly beneficial for visitors bluesrootsandsong.de.
Cultural significance and challenges
In an interview, festival manager Nico Baker expressed concerns about the impact of the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine on smaller clubs and festivals. Despite these challenges, the festival presented itself in top form, supported by the great commitment of the volunteers, who created a positive and welcoming atmosphere. The aim was to make it pleasant for visitors when it came to the prices for admission, food and drinks: advance booking was only 36 euros, the box office was 42 euros, while schoolchildren and students could take part for 18 euros and children up to 12 years old were even allowed in free of charge. This fair price level certainly contributes to the attractiveness of the festival.
As a nationwide study that will be published in summer 2025 shows, music festivals are a crucial part of the German cultural landscape. They promote encounters, social interactions and cultural diversity and offer enough space for diverse discourses. The festival in Schneverdingen is an example of how such commitment not only sets musical highlights, but also takes on an important social function bundesstiftung-livekultur.org.
Although the festival faces challenges, the love of music and the support of volunteer work is a success story in Schneverdingen. The last few years have shown that a good hand and the commitment of the community are the secret behind success here, and that will continue to be the case in the future. Expectations for future festivals are high because the cultural significance of these events is undisputed!
