Free Expert Advice: Protect Your Ideas on June 18th!

On Wednesday, June 18th, companies and creative minds in Cologne have excellent opportunities. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lüneburg-Wolfsburg and Elbe-Weser Chambers of Industry and Commerce are organizing a free telephone consultation day that focuses on industrial property rights. In confidential discussions, interested parties can speak directly to a patent attorney about questions about the legal protection of their technical inventions, design protection for new product ideas and brand identification.

As the Celle press reported, participants can present their developments or ideas and clarify which intellectual property rights are applicable for their creations. The expert is guaranteed to provide helpful information on applying for and enforcing intellectual property rights. There are also valuable tips on research and expected costs.

Importance of intellectual property

But why are such consultations so important? The term “intellectual property” includes all exclusive rights to innovative inventions, designs and trademarks. According to information from German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) Industrial property rights, which include patents, utility models and trademarks, are essential in order to secure the exclusivity and exploitation rights of one's own creations.

Anyone who secures their ideas legally can count on a variety of advantages. Patents provide protection for technical inventions, while the utility model offers a quick way to protect developments. Designs can be registered with the DPMA to secure the external design, and brand names can also be legally protected.

The role of the EU

At the European level, intellectual property protection is being promoted to promote innovation and economic growth. The EU took over responsibility for intellectual property rights with the entry into force of the TFEU in 2009. The aim is to strengthen rights through harmonized legislation and minimize the risk of counterfeiting.

Various forms of protection are offered in Europe, including the possibility of adapting intellectual property rights to digitalized processes. This means that the creative minds of tomorrow also have a secure basis to bring their ideas and inventions onto the market.
