Summer festival at Inselsee: fun and entertainment for everyone!

On August 24, 2025, the island lake in Scharnebeck will be the scene of a colorful summer festival. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors can expect a program organized by several local groups. Alexandra Cyrkel, chairwoman of the Inselsee support group, is pleased about the opportunity to use this beautiful ambience for the community. The island lake, which was opened as a swimming lake over 50 years ago, remains a popular meeting place for bathers and entry is free.

The support group has ambitious plans for the future of the island lake. A diverse program of events is planned, including picnic evenings, open-air cinema and even a yoga festival. Such events are intended to further enrich the area and strengthen the community. The island lake was already a real crowd puller in 1986, when around 5,000 people came together for a live broadcast on NDR 2.

Renovation and maintenance of the site

The origins of the island lake go back to 1974, when the area was created from an excavation pit for the construction of the Elbe side canal. With the opening of the bathing facility in 1976, after the establishment of a DLRG guard station and a parking lot, the lake quickly developed into a valued local recreation area. The community of Scharnebeck is actively involved in the maintenance of the site and supports the upgrading of the area through the support group, which was founded in 2005 to revitalize the island lake.

The special location and free access make the island lake the ideal destination for families and those seeking relaxation. For visitors who want a little more freedom, special nudist areas and dog-friendly zones have been set up. This diversity helps ensure that the island lake remains a popular excursion destination in the long term.

Future-oriented collaborations

In addition, cooperation with the Leuphana University in Lüneburg is sought. The aim of this collaboration is to develop innovative ideas and concepts for the use of the island lake. Such initiatives will make even better use of the lake's potential and further increase its attractiveness as an event location.

Overall, the island lake remains an important attraction in the region, offering not only natural experiences but also cultural highlights. The upcoming summer festival is the first step towards a more lively and diverse leisure offering for the entire community. If everything goes well, the island lake could once again become a real hotspot for events and recreation.
