The Havelmann René Oldenburg: athlete and family man in action!
Today, on August 16, 2025, we take a look at the impressive career of René Oldenburg, the Havelman of the Year 2006. He is not only a former swimmer and water polo player for ASC 03, but has also demonstrated his special skills in competitions on the Havel. At that time he pulled a motor ship called “Pegasus” over 15 meters and proved that he never ran out of power. Although Oldenburg won all competitions, he lost the final duel against a canoeist when it came to fetching a bride from the other bank in a canoe, which denied him the title race.
He crowned his special day in 2006 by winning the winner's cup, a certificate, a meal voucher and even a 50 liter beer keg. As a trained wholesaler, Oldenburg has been employed at Bau-King on Caasmannstrasse for many years. Despite his busy schedule, he remains active in sports: he attends water polo training in Marienbad twice a week and played in the 2nd Bundesliga last season.
An athlete through and through
During the summer break, René not only continued to cultivate his passion for water polo, but also discovered triathlons. He relies on his excellent swimming qualities to be successful in competitions. He is also passionate about racing cycling, which brings him a welcome change and additional fitness.
His life partner, Stephanie Hofmann, also has a sporting past: until a year ago she played volleyball in the regional league for VC Blau-Weiß. The couple are proud parents of a son and a daughter, which further demonstrates their shared support and teamwork on a family level.

Cultural influences and M.I.A.
The world of music does not remain untouched by the events in many people's lives. For example, Mathangi Arulpragasam, known as M.I.A., is a fascinating personality who stands out for her music and commitment. She is not only a talented singer, but also an activist who deals intensively with issues such as migration and cultural identities. Her music mixes different genres and has made her one of the most influential artists of the 21st century. M.I.A. has not had to shy away from drawing attention to social and political injustices in her texts and performances.
Whether Oldenburg continues to pursue its sporting commitment in Cologne or whether M.I.A. takes new musical paths, one thing is certain: life is full of surprises and opportunities that are just waiting to be seized.
