An exciting weekend awaits football fans in Oldenburg! On August 1st, the first round of the Oldenburg District Cup will begin with two exciting derbies. As nwzonline.de reports, four Oldenburg teams have to compete, while the other teams have received a bye and will only get involved in the second round.
At the Klingenbergstrasse sports field, FC Medya, which plays in the 3rd district class south, will face SW Oldenburg from the district league at 7 p.m. At the same time, there will be a duel between TuS Bloherfelde from the 2nd district class and FC Ohmstede, who have won the district cup in the last two years, at the Kennedystrasse sports field at 8 p.m. These two encounters promise a lot of excitement and are the perfect start to a new cup season.
First round in knockout mode
During the draw for the first round, it was noticeable that more byes were given out this season than there were actually games taking place. For many teams, this means that they can take it easy for the time being. FC Ohmstede last secured the district cup in 2023 and 2024, and the question is whether they can fight for the title again this season.
Overall, the signs for the coming games are promising. Another exciting encounter is scheduled for August 8th: FC Medya II will play against SW Oldenburg III at 7:30 p.m. on the Brandenburger Straße sports field. The competition for the 3rd and 4th district classes as well as the Ü-40 Cup has not yet seen its first round draw, so surprises can still await.

But it's not just the Oldenburg clubs that are in focus. On July 22nd another exciting event took place in the Oldenburg-Land/DEL district cup, where Adelh. TV and FC Hude dueled in the penalty shootout. Both teams were able to score several goals, but Adelh ultimately missed. TV took two out of five penalties, while FC Hude was less fortunate with a missed penalty and was left behind. The excitement is reaching its peak as the final of the district cup is scheduled for May 28, 2026, as fupa.net reports.
All in all, we can only hope that the spectators will be as excited about the upcoming games as the players on the pitch. There is great anticipation for thrilling encounters - and perhaps one of the underdogs will become the shining cup winner this season! We can be excited.
