Midsummer city festival: Scharmbeck celebrates with music and fun!
There's a lot going on in Osterholz-Scharmbeck today, because the town festival, which takes place from Friday to Sunday, July 20, 2025, has reached its grand finale. In high summer temperatures, people flock to the market square and the church forecourt to enjoy a colorful program of live music, culinary delights and entertaining attractions. The band “Larry And The Handjive” is already in the starting blocks and ready to enchant the crowd with their rock 'n' roll with driving beats and nostalgic elements from the 1950s and 1960s. So it was no wonder that their performance at 8 p.m. attracted numerous visitors who wanted to dance with hits like “C’mon Everybody” and “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis Presley. The lead guitarist and keyboardist Herbie Miller and the singer Rick Baker talked to the festival visitors before the sound check and remembered past performances in the city 22 years ago. Next year the band will celebrate their 40th anniversary.
The preparations for the city festival were extensive. The first activities began on Friday with live music and a number of showmen's stalls. Saturday morning was particularly attractive for families, as the Karkmesmarkt - a flea and junk market - opened its doors and had a children's area with a carousel and bungee trampoline. The police were also on site to provide information about their important work and to ensure a security framework.
Program and attractions
The city festival impresses with a diverse program. The stage at Kirchplatz offered acoustic covers of “PURE INVENTION” on July 18th and on July 19th the band rocked “TRIPLE B” with a mix of rock and tearjerkers. Next Sunday will be all about tradition and maritime music, with an open-air service at 11:00 a.m. and subsequent performances by the Hamme Sailing Club Shanty Choir at 3:00 p.m. and the O&O Band at 4:00 p.m.
For the youngest visitors, “Kids Day” on Sunday was a highlight, where the stage was entirely given over to the children and a balloon artist enchanted the little guests. The festival grounds catered for every taste with a variety of delicacies, whether savory or sweet. The leisure activities seemed to leave nothing to be desired.
