VSK gymnasts shine despite challenges at district competition!

The gymnasts from VSK Osterholz-Scharmbeck recently caused great joy at the district team competitions of the Lüneburg gymnastics district in Winsen (Luhe). A total of five teams from the club competed and despite some hurdles, they put in impressive performances. The competition was a real power game that demanded top performance, team spirit and stamina from the athletes, which Weser-Kurier reports.

The G2-G3 team, consisting of Clea Farin, Lieke von Oesen and Mayra Lindner, delivered stable performances. Clea Farin received a 0.5 bonus for her turnaround on the high bar, while Lieke von Oesen shone with a great split on the floor. Mayra Lindner was awarded for the best beam score. The G3-G5 team also showed strong performances, especially on the beam. Nieke Mill performed almost flawlessly on the uneven bars and received a sensational score of 15 out of 16 points. Mila Jacobs knew how to impress with a clean handover on the jump.

Challenges and peak performance

It became clear that the original plans to start with two teams in performance classes 3 and 4 could not be implemented due to other clubs withdrawing. Instead, the VSK teams were upgraded, which meant that the gymnasts now had to face strong competition. Coach Daniela Esmann emphasized that the team accepted the challenge so as not to miss out on competitions. On Sunday morning the team started in performance class 3 with Leni and Mia Oltmann, Leana Stuckert, Lilian Weigl, Antonia Monien and Frieda Schulte. On this day, they performed clean handstands on vault and excelled on uneven bars, but suffered the regret of falls on beam that cost them valuable points. In the end we finished eighth.

In the afternoon, the performance class 2 team, which consisted of Ida Mill, Alexia Veidenheimer, Mila Waltersdorf, Mila Flieshardt and Johanna Kleinert, finally competed. For some gymnasts it was their first competition in this class, which made their excitement understandable. But they mastered confident somersaults, which were rewarded with scores of twelve. They were also able to do the vault exercises well despite the hard springboards, and one can only be amazed by the three gymnasts who successfully mastered the flying element on the uneven bars. Ultimately, the team reached sixth place out of a total of eight teams.
