Worpswede in an art frenzy: New exhibition Walden from July 4th!
In Worpswede, one of the most famous places for artists' colonies in Germany, a new exhibition will open on July 4th that will delight art lovers and the curious alike. Dietlind Bertelsmann, who continues the tradition of the Künstlerhaus, awaits guests in Haus Bertelsmann, a lovingly preserved farmhouse from 1785. The exhibition, which will be on view until August 29th, is entitled “Walden” and is inspired by Henri Thoreau's work of the same name.
What can visitors expect in this exhibition? In the exhibition room you can admire five floating structures made of reddish Japanese paper, which are not only visually impressive but also tell a deeper story. This special paper was dyed with a tincture of persimmon fruits and shows exciting cracks and scars. This choice of material is intended to emphasize the interaction of different forms of expression in art, a concept that is particularly close to Dietlind Bertelsmann's heart.
A place with history
The Künstlerhaus Bertelsmann was purchased by Walter and Erna Bertelsmann in 1918 and has only undergone minimal changes since then. The large hallway, the baroque kitchen door and the original flint floor give the house a unique charm. Over the years, the house has established itself as a meeting place for art and culture and regularly offers concerts, visual arts and discussion groups, which for many represent an important platform in Worpswede's creative life. The Treibgut Worpswede association, founded in 2013, takes care of the preservation and further development of cultural activities.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on July 4th at 8 p.m. with musical accompaniment by soprano Nicole Ferrein, who will present the work “tree voices” by Morton Feldmann. Admission for the opening evening is 20 euros. For anyone who would like to visit the exhibition, the entry price is pleasantly affordable at 5 euros.
Accompanying events and opening times
In addition to the main exhibition, two exciting accompanying events are planned for the summer. The film “Vita Brevis” will be shown on August 15th at 8 p.m. and can be viewed for just 10 euros. And on August 29th there will be a memorial concert for the renowned composer Wolfgang Rihm, for which an entry fee of 20 euros is also required. Important: Tickets for these events are only available at the box office, but pre-registration by email is possible.
During the exhibition, Haus Bertelsmann is open on Fridays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here, visitors can look forward not only to great art, but also to sharing the special atmosphere of Worpswede, a city that has been considered an important artists' colony since the 19th century. Artists not only sought a place of creativity here, but also a life far away from the strict art academies.
Take the opportunity to experience this exciting combination of art and history at Haus Bertelsmann. A visit is definitely not just a pleasure for art connoisseurs!
