Help for Bermel: Animal protection association is urgently looking for a foster home!
In Edemissen, a district in the Peine district, animal rights activists are faced with a challenging task. The tricolor cat Bermel was found on Eltzer Drift Street on June 11th after an alert woman noticed her poor health. The Peine and surrounding area animal welfare association is now in the process of finding a suitable place to care for the poor furry friend. When she was found, Bermel's condition could be described as "horrifying": she suffered from dehydration, nasal discharge and was extremely emaciated. The association has made it its mission to help her and is urgently looking for a quiet home where she can recover.
During her stay at a veterinary practice, Bermel was able to gain some weight, but concerns about her health remain. The cat suffers from an overactive thyroid and kidney weakness, a combination that is particularly dangerous for older cats. This hormonal disorder can be common in cats and in many cases leads to serious health problems. Anifit describes that symptoms such as insatiable hunger, weight loss and increased drinking quantities can occur, which are also observed in diabetes or kidney failure.
Treatment challenges
For treatment, Bermel receives special kidney food and antibiotics for cat colds, which she takes surprisingly well with licking paste. However, thyroid disease poses a problem because it cannot currently be adjusted to thyroid tablets. Animal protection associations point out that in advanced cases of hyperthyroidism this can lead to serious symptoms, including nervousness, aggressiveness or even breathing problems. It is recommended that the cat be checked by a veterinarian regularly in order to best adjust the drug treatment and monitor possible side effects.
Since hyperthyroidism often occurs in cats aged around eight and over, older animals are more likely to develop such diseases. This makes the search for a foster home all the more urgent, because early detection and treatment are crucial to the quality of life of cats like Bermel.
The call to animal lovers
The team at the Peine animal shelter hopes that a loving home can soon be found for Bermel that will provide her with the peace and care she needs to recover from her health problems. Anyone interested in the fate of this cat is cordially invited to contact the animal shelter. This initiative shows once again how important animal protection work and solidarity action are in society.
It remains to be hoped that Bermel will soon have the chance for a happy and healthy life in a new home.
