On January 17, 2026, a worrying incident occurred in the Hagenholz forest area in Salzgitter when two senior women, 70 and 71 years old, were attacked by two unknown men. What started as a harmless winter walk ended in a nightmare for the women, who were suddenly pelted with snowballs. The perpetrators didn't let up and an aggressive verbal argument developed, which ultimately resulted in a physical attack in which the seniors were insulted, threatened and even beaten and kicked. After this brutal attack, the men slipped away unrecognized into the darkness of the forest.
The injuries to these innocent women were so serious that they had to be hospitalized for treatment. It is particularly frightening that this is the second incident in a short time in Salzgitter. Just last June, a 48-year-old woman was attacked with a blow to the neck in her own garden while she was watering her plants. She fell and sustained an abrasion. In the first case, the police were initially unable to catch the attacker and now the perpetrators have quickly fled.
