Over 10,000 runners collect over 2 million euros for children in Braunschweig!
On July 5, 2025, the big charity event “walk4help” took place in Braunschweig’s Bürgerpark, where things went haywire. On this sunny Saturday, over 10,000 enthusiastic participants and visitors came together to run together for a good cause. The occasion of the event was the 20th anniversary of the United Kids Foundations, the children's aid network of the BRAWO GROUP. The event was not just about exercising, but also about sending a strong message for a healthy earth and healthy children.
It's great what happened there: another milestone was set with an impressive total of 2,024,341 euros raised through entry fees and donations. In recent years, the initiative has successfully raised funds for numerous children and youth projects, and this year the program included 21 projects to promote children's health in the context of climate change. Jürgen Brinkmann, CEO of Volksbank BRAWO, praised the cohesion and solidarity in the region that is shown through such events.
Community spirit and fun
The community park was transformed into a happy family festival with a variety of theme camps that focused on the four elements – water, air, earth and fire. Here the participants could not only walk, but also take part and find out more. Artists provided entertainment and provided information about the “Healthy Earth. Healthy Children” initiative. on. Prominent supporters such as Franziska van Almsick and Felix Neureuther were also there and contributed to the great atmosphere.
The route was particularly remarkable, as it covered a total of 49,846 kilometers. Participants had the choice between distances of 8 kilometers (water), 6 kilometers (air), 4 kilometers (earth) and 2 kilometers (fire), which were especially intended for children and people with limited mobility. A world record of 52,482 charity kilometers was already set in 2019, and the attempt to break this record again was a central concern this year.
Sustainability and local projects in focus
The “Healthy Earth. Healthy Children” initiative. aims to connect child health, climate change and environmental protection. Numerous projects throughout Germany are intended to raise awareness of these topics among children and young people. An example of a supported initiative is the “Acker Racker & VegetableAckerdemie” project, where young people learn how to grow vegetables and the importance of sustainable nutrition. Another project, the “myclimate project days”, engages children with important climate issues and thus builds a connection to nature.
The BRAWO GROUP once again showed its commitment by promising to double the entry fees and donations if the world record was broken. With over 650 projects implemented since 2005, United Kids Foundations has supported more than 88,000 children and young people and planted a large number of 500,000 trees. These successes are clear evidence of the need to act now to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for generations to come.
Overall, “walk4help” was not only a big step for a good cause, but also a wonderful opportunity to experience community and bring the message for a healthy future to life. Anyone interested in the upcoming event can register now at walk4help.de.
