Bückeburger Kita with exemplary sun protection for children awarded!

The Unterwallweg municipal daycare center in Bückeburg has recently established itself as a pioneer when it comes to sun protection and has now been recognized as a “sun protection active daycare center”. As part of the skin cancer prevention project “SunPass – Healthy Sun Fun for Children”, the children learned in a playful way how to protect themselves from the sun’s dangerous rays. How szlz.de reports, the daycare center was able to obtain valuable information during a digital project introduction with experts from IKK classic.

At daycare, the children learn how important it is to use sunscreen and wear protection through hats with neck protection. In addition, care was taken to provide sufficient shade areas through trees and awnings. The focus on the topic of sun protection runs like a common thread through the activities of the last few months, in which the children were able to come into contact with the topic in a playful way through crafts and painting activities. This approach is not only educational but also entertaining for the young participants.

A shared commitment

The “SunPass” project was developed by the European Skin Cancer Foundation and has already reached over 14,000 children and their families in Lower Saxony since it started in 2010. The Lower Saxony Cancer Society has been involved since 2013 and has worked in close cooperation with the IKK classic since 2015. As the nds-krebsgesellschaft.de explains, sunburns in early childhood and high UV exposure are risk factors for the development of skin cancer, which are constantly increasing.

Educators at the daycare center received training from Dr. med. Maren Stahl, a dermatologist, to raise awareness about responsible use of the sun. An online parent event also gave parents helpful information on how to protect their children. This holistic approach emphasizes the responsibility of the entire community in the fight against skin cancer and encourages active participation in this important issue.

Sun protection in everyday life

The importance of sun protection is supported by various scientific findings. Loud healthy.bund.de Sunscreens help delay sunburns and prevent premature skin aging. However, it is important to know that even with sun protection, some UV rays can penetrate the skin. The correct use of sunscreen is crucial: it should be applied 20 to 30 minutes before sunbathing and reapplied regularly, especially after bathing.

The daycare center received a sun protection box with materials and hats in order to continue to actively sensitize the children to the topic. This award and commitment are not only a benefit for the facilities, but also for the health of the next generation. Interested daycare centers have the opportunity to apply for next year's program at service@nds-krebsgesellschaft.de.

Overall, the Bückeburger Kita's award shows that a good hand in preventative health work for children not only bears great fruit, but also sets an example for the importance of sun protection in today's world.
