Large-scale operation by the fire brigade: flames threaten the forest near Extertal!
On Saturday, July 5th, the Extertal fire department was called to an important operation in Extertal-Rott, near Rinteln. At 3:37 p.m., the Almena fire-fighting group alerted their colleagues from the Extertal fire department Bremke fire department when a baler burst into flames during agricultural work. This dangerous situation posed a direct threat to the neighboring forest. According to szlz.de, around three hectares of land burned and were also affected several round bales and agricultural equipment.
The fire brigade had only previously taken care of securing a parade to mark the anniversary of the Almena brickmaker's association, so quick action was required. The situation was serious and the alert level was therefore raised, mobilizing a large number of additional units to provide support. All fire brigades from Extertal as well as a tank fire engine from the Rinteln local fire brigade were sent to the scene. This vehicle released an impressive 6,000 liters of water to fight the flames and establish a water supply. The fire department also received support from a farmer who used a cultivator to help create a so-called fire break to contain the fire.
Extensive follow-up work
The extinguishing work lasted several hours, which underlines the great urgency and challenge of the operation. Ultimately, the fire was successfully fought thanks to the combined efforts of all emergency services. It is shown again and again how quickly fires can get out of control and how important a well-equipped and operational fire department is. A look at the Statistics in Fire Protection illustrates the great need for effective fire protection in Germany. A comprehensive overview of the causes of fires, injured people and damage amounts could help to optimize prevention measures and increase the safety of the population.
Current challenges for the Extertal fire department
In addition to the acute operations, the Extertal fire department is also faced with other challenges. There was an apartment fire in Bösingfeld that required a large fire department to respond last week. In some cases, criminal elements also appear - there were recent arson incidents that are being investigated by the police. While preparations for the new construction of the Almena/Laßbruch fire station are underway, it is clear that the municipality is investing in new vehicles and equipment in order to be optimally prepared in an emergency, as lz.de reports.
However the situation develops, it remains to be hoped that the dedicated emergency services will always have a good hand in fighting such fires quickly and keeping the damage to people, animals and the environment to a minimum. The fire department and community events are also important in keeping the population informed about fire safety issues and actively involving them in prevention work.
