PSG sweeps Brest 3-0 and temporarily takes over the top of the table!
With a convincing 3-0 win against Stade Brestois, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) took another step towards leading the Ligue 1 table. After an impressive 7-2 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, PSG was also able to impress in this game and take first place, at least temporarily. Coach Luis Enrique's team is in good form this season - the fans can stay excited.
As reported, Enrique went with a 4-3-3 formation and surprised some with a starting XI that included Lucas Hernández, Lee Kang-in and Senny Mayulu. Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Nuno Mendes and Marquinhos initially had to sit on the bench. The Brest team played with a defensive 4-2-3-1 to counter the offensive power of the Parisians. However, there was only limited reason for hope for Brest, because the defensive lines were challenged.
The course of the game
In the first half, Brest had problems keeping up with PSG's powerful game. Achraf Hakimi was the key player for the Parisians and scored two goals. The first goal came in the 29th minute when he hit the net after a pass from Vitinha. Only ten minutes later he was there again after being played by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - the score was 0-2 for the visiting team.
Although Brest had shown defensive stability, their attacking efforts often remained harmless. PSG continued to dominate in the second half, but a handball from Lee Kang-in in the 59th minute led to a penalty, which Del Castillo was unable to convert - keeping Brest's hopes alive, even if they didn't pose much threat offensively.
Player of the game and other achievements
The Parisians put in a strong team performance over 90 minutes, with Hakimi being named player of the match with a rating of 8.5. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier didn't have much to do, but he was able to save a shot from Baldé in the 88th minute. Majecki, the Brest keeper, was much more challenged and had to fend off a number of shots, but was powerless against Hakimi's goal.
In stoppage time, Désiré Doué made it 3-0 with another goal after converting a pass from Warren Zaire-Emery. PSG brought the match home safely, while Brest remained in 12th place in the table. Player ratings reflect performances, with Lucas Chevalier receiving a solid 6 for his calm performance, while Hakimi received the top grade with an 8. Lee Kang-in, on the other hand, only received a grade of 5 after he not only caused a penalty but was also unable to make much of an impact on offense.
