City Cycling 2025: Hammah celebrates cyclist king and student success!
In the Stade district, city cycling has chosen its winners in 2025, and the result is impressive. The international campaign for cycling and climate protection, which has been encouraging all cyclists to ride as a team for their community over the last 21 days, has achieved impressive numbers. With a clear focus on climate-friendly mobility, the participants covered true mileage on their everyday journeys. Around 3,000 cyclists from 180 teams cycled an impressive 565,642 kilometers together and avoided 93 tons of CO2 emissions, as the Tageblatt reports.
The title for the best individual cyclist was won by Volker Luga from Hammah, who won an impressive fourth title in this category with a total distance of 2,461 kilometers. It is particularly worth mentioning that Luga is a member of the Ollanner cycling team, which is strongly committed to promoting cycling in the region. The BBS III Stade, which was named “Most Cycling Active School” for the second time, also shows a real magnitude. Their team, which includes 21 members, averaged 260 kilometers per person. Friedrich Everding contributed significantly to the success with almost half of the total distance.
Students are at the forefront
The Oldendorf primary and secondary school not only came out on top as the best school with 19,414 kilometers, but also had the largest school team with 217 participants. At the award ceremony, headmaster Julia Laing gave the honor to the student representatives Finja and Joris, which underlines the student commitment. It is noteworthy that the Oldendorf school was able to win two trophies in 2023, which proves its continued achievements in city cycling.
The best teams at a glance
The ADEA Bargstedt team received the title “Best Team” this year with 28,393 kilometers. Under the leadership of captain Heiko Fischer and mayor Ulrich Rathjens, ADEA Bargstedt, which includes the districts of Augensen and Frankenmoor, dealt with cross-team motivation. The large participation and the numerous kilometers cycled clearly show that the city cycling campaign is well received.

Looking to the future, the next city cycling event will take place from May 7th to 27th, 2026. And if you want to track your cycling routes efficiently, you can use the CITY CYCLING app. This practical application makes it possible to record the kilometers collected via GPS and count them towards the overall performance of the team and the municipality. The app is available not only in German, but also in English and French and is ideal for improving cycling infrastructure, as the official city cycling page reflects.
The commitment of the participants this year sends a clear signal for the promotion of cycling. The measures to support such projects and the ongoing motivation of cyclists are essential components in the fight against climate change, as can be read on klimaschutz.de. The commitment of municipalities, schools and teams will ensure that we continue to travel on two wheels for a greener world in the future.
