Warning! You should block these ten phone numbers immediately!

The number of unsolicited advertising calls has increased significantly in recent weeks. In July 2025 in particular, the telecommunications industry recorded an increase of almost 23 percent in reported spam calls compared to the previous month, as Merkur reports. As this number increases, so does the concern among consumers who are constantly faced with unsolicited calls, often from scammers posing as consumer advocates or through fake competitions.

The list of the most common spam numbers shows that it is primarily callers from Düsseldorf and Hamburg who make these annoying calls. Among the top 10 spam numbers are three from Düsseldorf and three from Hamburg. Nine out of ten of these calls come from Germany, while only one number comes from the Netherlands.

But what's behind it? The legal framework is clear: advertising calls without the prior consent of the person being called are prohibited by law and can be punished with severe fines. As the Consumer Center explains, inadmissible advertising calls are a serious problem as they can often lead to the signing of a contract and thus to unwanted payments. Contracts concluded over the telephone can usually be canceled within 14 days, provided they were concluded in accordance with legal requirements.

What consumers can do

The best strategy to protect yourself from unwanted calls is vigilance. Consumers should only share their phone numbers when necessary and, ideally, immediately block phone numbers that are not known. If you still receive an unwanted call, you can report it to the Federal Network Agency. A simple reporting option has been set up there, in which personal data, the date and time of the call and the caller's telephone number must be recorded. The legal situation is clear: Unauthorized advertising is not only annoying, but also illegal.

In summary: Don't let yourself be blown away when the doorbell rings and you see unknown numbers. It may well be worth it to just hang up. This way you not only protect your nerves, but also your wallet.
