Robbery in Friesoythe: Perpetrator escapes with a handbag!

On July 12, 2025, at 4:55 p.m., a robbery was reported on Tecklenburger Straße in Friesoythe. An unknown perpetrator snatched a 61-year-old woman's beige handbag from a walker and fled towards Zum Burggarten Street. The police in Friesoythe have started an investigation and are asking for information on 04491-93390. Such incidents shed light on security in the region and highlight the importance of vigilance.

As if that wasn't enough, another incident occurred at the same time in Saterland, more precisely on Piepkebierich Street. There was damage to a car on private property around 11:30 p.m. Here too, the police in Friesoythe are accepting tips.

Alcohol on the road

A 53-year-old man from Friesoythe was checked on his e-scooter at 11:36 a.m. on the same day. The police discovered that he was heavily influenced by alcohol: his breath alcohol level was 2.70 per mille. This is a clear violation of the regulations for driving under the influence of alcohol, which are regulated in Section 316 of the Criminal Code. Accordingly, it is a criminal offense to drive a vehicle if you are unable to steer it safely.

The legal regulations are clear. In Germany, if the blood alcohol level is over 0.3 per mille, you are considered to be relatively unfit to drive, which can be demonstrated by conspicuous behavior in traffic. Above 1.1 per mille, there is an absolute inability to drive, which is punished as a criminal offense and can result in both high fines and prison sentences of up to one year. In addition, in such cases there is often a risk of your driving license being revoked.

Alcohol limits and penalties

The blood alcohol limits are clearly defined and vary depending on the vehicle situation: for new drivers, a level of 0.0 per mille is considered an administrative offense. For established drivers, the penalties are highly staggered and depend on the actual alcohol level:

  • 0,3-1,1 Promille ohne auffälliges Verhalten: Ordnungswidrigkeit, Geldstrafen, Fahrverbot.
  • 0,3-1,1 Promille mit auffälligem Verhalten: Ordnungswidrigkeit und Straftat, Geldstrafen, Punkte in Flensburg.
  • Über 1,1 Promille: Automatische Straftat, hohe Geldstrafen, Freiheitsstrafen und Führerscheinentzug.
  • Über 1,6 Promille: Hohe Geldstrafe, MPU-Anordnung und Führerscheinentzug.

The severe consequences are particularly evident for cyclists. If the blood alcohol level is over 1.6 per mille, there is a risk of severe fines and even a ban on cycling on the road. In any case, the drivers concerned also run the risk of being fined.

The current incidents in Friesoythe once again make it clear how important it is to act responsibly in road traffic. Alcohol abuse in particular remains a major problem that has not only legal, but also personal and financial consequences.
