Long wait, great fun: Oyten's summer festival delights the crowd!
If you strolled through Oyten on the last weekend in June, you could literally feel the celebratory mood in the air. This year's Oyten Summer Festival attracted visitors like a magnet and transformed the main street into a true folk festival. A highlight was the mention of the event in the traffic news on Bremen 1, which ensured an additional flow of visitors. The festival was organized by Petra Kathke-Klee and André Röbke from the Self-Employed Association (VdS), who provided a colorful program with a lot of commitment and passion.
The first day of the festival began with free entry and an entertaining Zeppelin revival party that attracted many people. The following Sunday, handmade live music in the restaurant garden created a good atmosphere. And while visitors strolled through the stalls, the shops, which opened at 1pm, didn't have to wait long to offer their products. From textile design to jewelry to woven baskets and birdhouses, there was something for every taste.
Attractions and entertainment for young and old
What would a summer festival be without children's laughter and exciting attractions? The parents were able to enjoy a few free minutes while their children frolicked around with colorful balloons from the Kumadera Karate School. Long queues formed at the ice cream stands and soft drinks, while the carnies provided entertainment with a children's carousel and the exciting "Dr. Haarmann's Horror Labyrinth". The little ones especially enjoyed throwing cans and duck fishing.
But the security situation also presented challenges for the organizers. The increasing demands on security requirements do not make organizing such events any easier. The festival was accompanied by a well-thought-out security concept, which included showmen's trucks and sand-filled big packs at entrance lanes to ensure the safety of all visitors. These measures are essential today as major events are exposed to invisible threats, as general event security concepts demonstrate. The growing threat situation requires preventive measures and well-thought-out security strategies, as are often recommended by experts in the industry.
A look at the future
Despite all the challenges, the organizers are determined to continue the Oyten summer festival. “In this way, we not only promote social contacts, but also give something back to our community,” says Röbke. So people will continue to come together in Oyten to celebrate and spend wonderful times together. While it is unclear whether the event will remain financially viable, the community is motivated to continue creating exciting festivities for years to come.
In comparison to other folk festivals, such as the Berlin one Folk festival, which attracts visitors with over 60 attractions until August 17th, the Oyten Summer Festival shows that even smaller festivals have their own charm. In any case, everyone says: Off to Oyten – the next visit is definitely worth it!
