Verden is upgrading: 1.84 million for new fire engines!

The fire department in Verden is being prepared for a new era of operational capability and hygiene. With an investment volume of 1.84 million euros, the city has put several modern fire engines into service, which benefit both the devices and the emergency services. These innovations, like the district newspaper reported include, among other things, a state-of-the-art turntable ladder, which costs 810,000 euros and was successfully used during a fire in August 2024.

But that's not all. The new vehicles also include a fire department vehicle with an impressive 3,600 liter water tank, a practical command vehicle and an equipment vehicle specializing in hygiene. The latter, the Hygiene equipment trolley, with a price of 310,000 euros, represents a real innovation that was specially developed to increase the safety of emergency services and minimize the risk of contamination. It is equipped with changing tents, sinks and roll containers for clean emergency clothing. The Berlin fire department describes that such vehicles provide cleaning and changing facilities at deployment sites, which contributes significantly to minimizing health risks.

A day for the fire department

The official vehicles will be handed over next Saturday as part of the city fire brigade day. From 1 p.m., the firefighters will gather on the sports field on Artilleriestrasse, where not only will the new vehicles be presented, but exciting competitions between the emergency departments and the youth and children's fire departments are also on the program. In addition, other aid organizations such as the Technical Relief Agency and the German Red Cross will present their work.

There are games for the little guests and there is also a lot of culinary on offer. You could say there is something for everyone - a real celebration for the entire community!

Why hygiene is so important

The importance of hygiene and avoiding pollutants in the fire service is undisputed. According to the DGUV, there are clear guidelines that are intended to ensure the protection of emergency services. Without appropriate protective measures, there is a risk of health damage and even cancer. The DGUV offers comprehensive information and assistance to avoid such risks. The hygiene equipment trolley plays a central role here, for example by containing a hygiene tower that enables emergency services to clean themselves immediately after operations and to work hygienically.

The innovations in Verden show that the city is not only investing in technical equipment, but also in the well-being of its firefighters. Healthy and well-equipped emergency services are the key to effective threat prevention. In addition, the challenges that the fire brigade constantly faces during operations must be tackled with a good hand. It is clear that these investments in the future of the fire department represent much more than just a nice innovation.
