Unusual short film Treu” opens the Social Psychiatric Film Days!

The third edition of the Social Psychiatric Film Days will soon open in Wilhelmshaven. On Wednesday, January 21st, the short film “Treu” is on the program, which powerfully deals with topics such as love, misunderstandings and dementia. The 15-minute film starts excitingly and has won over the audience. It tells the story of a woman who believes she is being held captive in a strange apartment, providing an emotional approach to the challenges that dementia can bring. The film sponsor Rosemarie Groß from the Alzheimer Society Wilhelmshaven-Friesland not only wants to entertain with the presentation of the film, but also initiate important conversations, especially among caring relatives.

The screening starts at 3 p.m. in the UCI cinema Wilhelmshaven. Viewers can look forward to stimulating discussions as, in addition to the main actors Anthony Arndt and Stefan Engler, there are also experts on site. Your presence is intended to help raise awareness of the experiences of people with dementia and to emphasize the importance of support for family caregivers. Rosemarie Groß herself has personal experience caring for a relative with dementia, having cared for her mother for 17 years.

Series of events to raise awareness about dementia

The Social Psychiatric Film Days are organized by the Social Psychiatric Association Wilhelmshaven and aim to focus on the topic of dementia. A number of other films are planned to be shown in the coming months, including “As in Heaven” on February 25th and “Love & Mercy” on March 25th. The variety of films is intended to offer different perspectives on life with dementia and help family carers overcome the complex challenges they often face.

A contribution on the topic that is also worth reading is the recently published specialist book “Relatives of people with dementia: research results and perspectives”, which was published by the German Alzheimer Society and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). This book contains 30 chapters by experts who deal intensively with the living situation of relatives of dementia patients. According to deutsche-alzheimer.de, the book is intended to help caring relatives by offering them recognition and support.

Important support and offers of help

The relatives of people with dementia often face enormous challenges and can easily reach their limits. Early advice on offers of help and support is crucial. The gesund.bund.de recommends that relatives should seek support from care support centers and care advice centers. These offices offer free, independent information on topics such as long-term care insurance, nursing services and respite care. Self-help groups can also be of great importance for exchange and support.

For caring relatives who need support, the Alzheimer's Society also offers an Alzheimer's telephone, where they can ask questions about dementia. In addition, advice databases promote access to the necessary sources of information that are urgently needed in this difficult life situation.

The importance of these topics is highlighted through initiatives and events such as the Social Psychiatric Film Days. They call for raising awareness of the challenges of dementia and the role of carers and investing more in the networks that offer support.
