Wittmund is celebrating: Marco Thies is the patron of the Citizens' Market!

On July 18, 2025 it's that time again: the 53rd Citizens' Market in Wittmund opens its doors and promises a colorful hustle and bustle for young and old. NWZonline reports that Marco Thies, a committed citizen and chairman of the Leerhafe-Hovel gymnastics and sports club, has taken over the patronage this year.

Marco Thies is no stranger to the region. Since 2000 he has lived with his wife and their two children in Leerhafe, a district of Wittmund. Thies, who works at “Adams Simulation and Training GmbH”, has left an important mark in the Harlingerland youth development association and the sports club. Since 2018 he has led both clubs, which together have around 832 members. The support of the members is particularly important to him, and as a patron he also sees himself as a voice for all volunteers in the community.

Colorful program for all age groups

The Citizens' Market will take place from July 18th to 20th and offers a varied program. As in East Frisia reported, the event starts with a seniors' afternoon on Friday, followed by further highlights such as a Low German church service on Sunday and a children's and adult flea market. A highlight will also be the Pudding Olympics, where the focus is on skill and fun.

Visitors can also expect an exciting music program on several stages that has something for every taste. The traditional bicycle auction will not be missing either. The opening will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. on the large stage on the market square, and on the three days of the event the pedestrian zone will be transformed into a stage for joyful togetherness.

Eating and drinking are included

The culinary delights are also not neglected. Marco Thies plans to involve local clubs in the design of the market and will present stalls with a beer stall, a cocktail bar and a barbecue trolley. This is not only an opportunity for citizens to meet and celebrate, but also for clubs to make an important contribution to community work.

The Citizens' Market is not just a celebration for the people of Wittmund, but a sign of community. Over three days, the city will be alive with a variety of activities that are attractive to both locals and visitors from the surrounding area. City festivals in Germany highlights that the market also includes numerous stands of private individuals and associations presenting their goods and services.

The ballpoint pen is ready to mark the date on the calendar: From July 18th to 20th, Wittmund will be transformed into a place of celebration, exchange and joy, and with Marco Thies as patron, the Citizens' Market will definitely be an unforgettable event.
