In Bielefeld, a planned bicycle theft on October 29, 2025 was thwarted at the last second. Residents on Am Lothberg Street noticed a suspicious VW Passat around 2:30 p.m., from which a driver and two other people got out and moved very inconspicuously towards the adjacent gardens. The police were immediately informed, who promptly arrived on site and arrested the three suspects. These were a 22-year-old woman and two men, aged 23 and 31, who were found near the vehicle.
Officers discovered burglary tools in the suspects' car, indicating that the perpetrators had serious intentions. The license plates of the VW were also reported stolen, which put the police on the trail of a criminal trio. Another resident also reported that a strange man tried to break the padlock on his garage before he was approached by the resident and fled. On the same day it was announced that the suspects were Bulgarian citizens and would now have to answer for attempted aggravated theft. These incidents show once again that bicycle thefts are a serious problem in Germany.
Bicycle theft – a nationwide phenomenon
