Eintracht Braunschweig: Coach Backhaus stays despite fears of relegation!
The waves are high in Braunschweig because Eintracht is in the middle of a relegation battle. The club is currently in 16th place in the table and has already played twelve games this season, losing eight of them. Eintracht Braunschweig recently suffered a painful 2-0 defeat against VfL Bochum, which further increases concerns about staying in the league. The team's performance is being questioned and coach Heiner Backhaus finds himself increasingly criticized.
Despite the weak results, Backhaus remains the Lions' coach, as sports director Benjamin Kessel announced on Tuesday. Kessel has confidence in the quality of the team and the coaching staff and sees “no reason for a change of coach”. This is no coincidence, as the number of points in the last games is similar to that of a direct relegated team. After the defeat against Bochum, those responsible consulted internally and recognized that it was urgently necessary to make certain adjustments, especially in defense.
Criticism and analysis
The feedback after the defeat against Bochum was mixed. Kessel believes the performance wasn't as bad as the result suggests. However, there are recurring problems, especially in defending the penalty area. Backhaus is responsible for stabilizing the defense, as the club could again have to fight to stay in the league until relegation.
The numbers speak for themselves: After a promising start with two wins from the first two games, Eintracht have only collected four points from the last ten games. This trend must be reversed and Kessel demands that every player return to their peak performance in order to achieve better results. “We have to quickly implement the topics we have defined,” says Kessel.
Looking into the future
A clear course of action was formulated: The team and the coaching team must improve the situation together. If this does not succeed, Heiner Backhaus could soon become the first shaky candidate. The challenge lies ahead: After the international break, the next duel against Hertha BSC is on November 21st. Time is running out and all eyes are on Braunschweig. The team now has to do everything they can to get out of the bottom of the table.
