FISU World Games 2025: Regional talents fight for medals!

On July 16, 2025 the time has finally come: The FISU World University Games are starting in the Ruhr area. More than 300 German athletes who study at UA Ruhr universities compete and face the competition in 18 sports with great motivation. What is particularly pleasing is that “Team Studi”, which brings together these talents, is presenting a record number of participants. There are also many athletes among them who have already gained experience at the Olympic Games.

The games take place in several cities, including Duisburg, Essen, Bochum, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen and even Berlin. With a variety of events and a challenging selection of sports, the event is a highlight for the region and the athletes themselves. Rhine Ruhr 2025 reports that the participants include a badminton quartet from the University of Duisburg-Essen and a large rowing group from the Ruhr University Bochum and the TU Dortmund.

Participants and sports

  • Rudern: Die größte Gruppe mit acht nominierten Athleten, darunter Jasper Angl und Julian Garth.

A special feature of the FISU Games is the opportunity for regional athletes to compete in front of family and friends. In addition, the tickets are available at moderate prices, which makes the event accessible to many people.

But it's not just about sporting competitions! From July 17th to 19th in Bochum FISU World Conference take place. The theme this year is “Competing for Change: Exploring Sustainability and (Mental) Health through Sports”. Participants can expect an exciting discussion about key issues that affect both athletes and coaches. Topics such as mental health and the pressure placed on high performers are the focus.

Focus of the FISU World Conference

The conference not only appeals to athletes, but also attracts students, academic researchers and sports managers. The goal of the event is to develop strategies that not only improve athletic performance but also promote well-being in high-pressure environments. These topics are particularly relevant in the fast-moving university environment. The program includes keynote lectures, workshops and discussion groups that are intended to stimulate exchange between participants.

The FISU Games and the associated conference offer a unique opportunity to combine sporting and social topics in one place. They could make a valuable contribution to creating healthier and sustainable communities. It will be exciting to see what impulses and insights will emerge from these events!
