Dangerous storm in the Borken district: heavy rain and storms are threatening!

Weather warnings are on the rise in the region! On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects severe thunderstorms and severe weather triggered by a cold front from the Benelux countries. You should be prepared for intense weather events, especially between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., as the forecasts are alarming. Borkener Zeitung reports possible precipitation amounts of 20 to 40 liters per square meter per hour, locally even up to 60 liters.

The temperatures previously rose to up to 30 degrees in some areas, and on Tuesday, July 1st, for example in Stormarn, even up to 33 degrees. The change from hot air to cooler fronts could form the ideal basis for these storms. Not only can there be heavy rain, hail is also involved. This can reach dimensions of up to 4 centimeters, warn the weather experts from SHZ.

Expected effects

With gusts of 70 to 105 km/h, the wind also becomes a danger. Even hurricane-like gusts, with wind speeds between 105 and 130 km/h, could occur. This not only has an impact on spending time outdoors, but also on traffic. The risk of falling trees and falling branches is high, which could also result in major damage to buildings and vehicles. Wetteronline emphasizes that staying outdoors in this region of Germany when there is a threat of severe weather should be avoided at all costs.

There could be significant disruptions on the roads and railways, especially during after-work hours, making daily commuting a challenge. For example, basements could flood and streets could become impassable. It is therefore advised to secure loose objects outdoors and pay attention to official warnings. In many regions the situation will not calm down until Thursday night.

Preparing for the storm

Severe weather warnings are relevant not only for Germany but for the whole of Europe and are updated regularly. There are different warning levels that indicate the severity of the storm. This information is crucial to prepare for hazards such as lightning and storm damage in good time. However, concrete geographical forecasts can be difficult, which is why you should always stay up to date.

In view of the impending storm front, it is wise to prepare in good time and assess possible risks. Strong storms often bring cooling, but not without risks. Remember to take safety precautions! So you can perhaps face the storm alarm with a little more calm.
