Hovesath celebrates shooting festival: Who will be the new king?

There is great anticipation in Hovesath because the annual shooting festival is just around the corner. From Wednesday to Friday, the community will be in a celebratory mood while neighborhoods and groups of friends make the final preparations together. Invitations were distributed and the streets, decorated with colorful bunting, bear witness to the upcoming festival. As the Stadtanzeiger reports, the community welcomes anyone interested on this special weekend to take part and celebrate together in the festival tent on Weseler Straße.

The shooting festival kicks off on Wednesday with a festive mass in the tent at 6:30 p.m., followed by music and an exuberant party atmosphere. The highlight takes place on Friday, when the hunt for the wooden bird begins at 12 p.m. As the Borkener Zeitung reports, the bird finally fell with the 210th shot and the reigning king Reinhold Brokamp chose Edith Finke as his queen. After the exciting royal shot, the proclamation of the new royal couple will take place, followed by a festive coronation ball in the evening.

Tradition and community

The tradition of bird shooting is very important in Germany. A wooden bird, fixed at a height of 20 to 30 meters, is shot with a crossbow. The shooter who shoots down the last piece of the bird becomes the new shooter king or queen. It becomes clear that such a competition is not only about honor, but also about preserving customs, which combine many charitable and cultural aspects. The German Shooting Association emphasizes that a parade with flags and traditional costume plays an essential role in the shooting festival and cannot be missed in Hovesath.

The exciting succession to the throne consists of Wolfgang Finke and Martina Brokamp as well as Guido and Uta Dowe, Martin and Annette Deelmann and Clemens and Annette Nienhaus. Martin Deelmann remained active in the competition for kingship until the end. On Thursday, the day will begin with a tribute to the fallen at the memorial at 3:30 p.m., followed by a parade on the sports field. The night program then includes the Throne Ball, which begins at 8 p.m.

Joint celebrations

The highlight for the community is the storming of the throne, which is one of the celebrations that makes the shooting festival a unique experience. The board and officers organized the festivities with care, and the women's company did not shy away from decorating rifles and preparing florets for the tent. The young people also did their part by decorating the tent and the festival site and organizing the election of a pair of runkel kings.

In the warm atmosphere of the shooting festival, wishes of recovery for sick fellow citizens are also part of the tradition; everyone hopes to celebrate together next year. A traditional appeal is reminiscent of the motto “City and country, hand in hand” while preparations are in full swing. With an offensive for more community and through numerous activities, Hovesath strives to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

The shooting festival in Hovesath will not only be a place for celebrations, but also a melting pot where traditions, a sense of community and happy conviviality play a central role. Preparations are in full swing and the anticipation can be felt not only among the members of the shooting club. One can look forward to these lively days!
