The start of the festival is accompanied by traditional shooting events and cheerful parades, which transform the Münsterland into a lively festival. Nowadays these festivals have lost their military character and are primarily folk festivals that bring people together. An essential element are the rifle flags, which are proudly carried in processions and during celebrations. The Northwest Newspaper describes that such festivals usually last two to three days and end with a shared meal and the tapping of the beer barrel.

A highlight of the shooting festival is the bird shooting, in which the election of the new shooting king is held with a wooden figure. This year's festivities also include Beatrix Milde, who was crowned the new city marksman queen with the 294th shot. This exciting decision came at 8:15 p.m., like that City Rifle Association MS announced on Friday. Numerous insignias were also awarded that connect the shooters with special moments of the event. Ralf Scharp, Thomas Boer and Klara Borgheyink are just a few of the shooters who were able to win an apple, scepter or crown with a shot from the heart.
